TITLE : SMARTDrive Causes Lost Characters/Download Errors
PRODUCT : Procomm Plus 3.x, 2.x
==============================================================================

SMARTDrive is a special TSR which enhances system performance by performing
read and write-caching. When SMARTDrive write-caches data to your drive, it
may prevent Procomm Plus from receiving characters, leading to download errors
and aborted file transfers. Fortunately, it's easy to disable this feature.

PROCEDURE:

1. To disable SMARTDrive's write-caching, edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT or
   CONFIG.SYS file with a text editor such as DOS' EDIT program, or Windows'
   Notepad.

2. Look for the "SMARTDRV.EXE" command which loads the TSR.

3. Each disk drive on your PC has a corresponding drive ID letter. Disable
   write caching for all drives used during communications by adding the
   appropriate capitalized drive ID letters, separated by spaces, after the
   "SMARTDRV.EXE" command. For example, to disable write- caching on the
   C and D drives, change the command "C:\DOS\SMARTDRV.EXE" to
   "C:\DOS\SMARTDRV.EXE CD".

4. Remember to save the file and reboot your PC.
