==============================================================================
TITLE : Setup and Use of the FTP Utility
PRODUCT : Procomm Plus 4.x, 3.x
==============================================================================

You can use the Procomm Plus FTP client to transfer files between your machine
and a Host machine on the Internet. You can FTP through your Internet Service
Provider or through your local network if you have access to the Internet.
This document explains the setup and basic use of the Procomm Plus FTP client.

SETUP
To access the FTP options with Procomm Plus 32, click on Options | FTP
Options | General Options from the menu bar at the top of the screen (If you
are using Procomm Plus 95 or Procomm Plus 3.0, click on Setup | Internet |
FTP Options | General Options from the menu bar at the top of the screen.)
Setup should appear, with the General Options tab selected. This is where
you can specify an Anonymous Logon Password and control the Passive Mode
setting.

In most cases, you'll logon to FTP servers anonymously. Most FTP Hosts
request that with an anonymous logon, your e-mail address be entered as your
Anonymous Logon Password.

Passive mode is required if you have a local firewall. A normal FTP transfer
requires the remote to make a connection to your machine. The local firewall
prevents this for security reasons. Passive mode lets the local machine make
the second connection to the remote system to allow data transfer. If you
don't see any files or directories from the FTP site, try using passive mode.

CONNECTION DIRECTORY

Your FTP Host/IP addresses are stored in the Connection Directory. You can
get to the Connection Directory by clicking on the open book icon on the
Action Bar, or by going to File | Connection Directory. Within the directory,
with the FTP tab selected, you can specify whether to use the Anonymous Logon
feature for each entry. Otherwise, select the Logon Info button to enter a
site specific User ID and Password.

THE FTP CLIENT SCREEN

The FTP Client screen is split into two sections. On the left is the local
machine directory/file listing and on the right is the remote machine
directory/file list.

You can create and delete directories, as well as copy, move, delete, view and
rename files. NOTE: You must have the correct rights to do these tasks. The
bottom frame shows you the communication between your local machine and the
remote machine. This window cannot be resized.

HOW TO CONNECT TO A HOST SITE

You can connect to a remote site one of two ways. The connection can be
entered into the Connection Directory or you can manually connect to an FTP
site by clicking on FTP | Manual Connect from the menu bar. You will need to
fill in the connection information of the FTP site when using the manual
connect method.

TRANSFERRING FILES

Transferring files is a very simple process with Procomm Plus. If you are
using Procomm Plus 32, simply drag and drop the file you want to transfer
from one side to the destination directory on the other side. With previous
versions of Procomm Plus, Click on the file that is to be transferred, then
click on the copy button. You can transfer files from the FTP machine to
your machine, or you can copy files from your local machine to the FTP site.

NOTE: You must have write access to the directory you copy files into on the
FTP site.
