The modem data file for PROCOMM PLUS is called WMODEMS.DAT. You may
download the latest version of this file from either the Quarterdeck
BBS or the Datastorm Forum on CompuServe. You may also download it from our
FTP site at ftp://ftp.quarterdeck.com, or from our web site at
http://support.quarterdeck.com.
DOWNLOADING THE UPDATE
Quarterdeck BBS
1. Call the Quarterdeck Bulletin Board at 573.875.0503, using the ANSI BBS
terminal emulation and line settings of N,8,1.
2. Once connected, log in and provide all user information.
3. At the Main Menu, press <F> to go to the File Transfer Menu.
4. From the Top Ten list, choose <6> PROWIN Modem File. W4UMODEM.EXE can
also be found in the PROCOMM PLUS - Windows Library.
5. You will then be prompted for the file transfer protocol. Choose ZMODEM,
and the transfer will begin.
6. After the transfer is complete, press <Enter>, <G> for Goodbye, and then
<1> to disconnect.
Datastorm Forum on CompuServe
1. Call and connect to CompuServe. At any CompuServe prompt type GO
DSTORM<Enter>.
2. Once in the Datastrom(r) Forum, choose (3) Libraries and then the number
for the PROCOMM PLUS - Windows Library.
3. Now choose (4) to download a file to your computer and, at the prompt,
type W4UMODEM.EXE<Enter> to begin the file transfer.
4. After the transfer is finished, type EXIT<Enter> to return to the
CompuServe Main Menu or BYE<Enter> to log off from CompuServe.
For details on how to transfer files, see the tutorial on page 1.17 of the
User Manual.
Downloading from the FTP site
1. Use your FTP client, or your Web Browser, and go to ftp://ftp.quarterdeck.com
2. Select the PUB directory. Then select the PROCOMM-WINDOWS directory.
3. Select the US directory, and then select the VER-4 directory.
4. Select the PATCHES directory, and then select the W4UMODEM.EXE file.
Downloading from the Quarterdeck Web Page.
1. Go to http://support.quarterdeck.com
2. Select MODEM DRIVERS from the left Menu Bar.
3. Select MODEM INFORMATION CENTER, and then select PROCOMM PLUS 95 from the menu.
The W4UMODEMS.EXE will be downloaded to you. This file will work for either
Procomm Plus 95 or Procomm Plus 32.
UPDATING THE WMODEMS.DAT FILE
1. From your Desktop, Click on START, and select RUN from the menu.
2. Type COMMAND into the Command Line field and click OK.
3. Change to your download directory by issuing the CD command. If you are
using the default directory structure, the following command will take you
to the download directory: CD\PROGRA~1\PROCOM~1\DNLOAD<Enter>
4. Copy or move the file from its current directory to the PROCOMM PLUS for
Windows home directory (\PROGRAM FILES\PROCOMM PLUS by default). If you are using the
default directory structure, the following command will copy W4UMODEM.EXE to the
home directory: COPY W4UMODEM.EXE \PROGRA~1\PROCOM~1<Enter>
5. Now, change to the home directory of PROCOMM PLUS and issue the following
command: W4UMODEM.EXE<Enter> It will prompt you to overwrite
the existing WMODEMS.DAT. Press <Y> to allow it to overwrite it.
6. At the DOS prompt, type EXIT<Enter> to return to Windows. Your WMODEMS.DAT
file has now been updated.
7. Open Windows Explorer and go to the \PROGRAM FILES\PROCOMM PLUS\PROGRAMS directory.
Double-Click on the PWINF4.EXE, which is the Procomm Plus INF Builder. From here
you may select you manufactuer and model of the modem you have. A new INF file for
your modem will be created. It is recommended you save the new INF file in the
\PROGRAM FILES\PROCOMM PLUS directory.
8. Go to Control Panel and select Modems. Click on "Add".
9. Select "Don't detect my modems;I will select it from a list."
10. Click on "Have Disk."
11. Browse and select the INF file created by PWINF4.EXE
WHEN IS WMODEMS.DAT UPDATED?
WMODEMS.DAT is updated approximately once a quarter and the updated files are
posted during the first week of the new quarter (January, April, July, October).
It will be updated earlier if there are many requests for new modems.
If your modem is still not listed, you may send us a copy of the modem's complete
AT command set, fax commands, and S register settings for inclusion in future updates.
