Procomm Plus uses Windows Dial-Up Networking to establish an internet
connection. This document will explain how to use Procomm Plus to set up
Dial-Up Networking to make use of your existing Internet Service Provider.
This document assumes that you have your modem set up for use with Windows.
INSTALLING DIAL-UP NETWORKING
-----------------------------
1. Choose Settings | Control Panel from the Windows Start taskbar menu to
open the Control Panel.
2. Double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon, or highlight it and press
<Enter>.
Windows will display its Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog.
3. Select Windows Setup.
4. Select the Communications component, and then click Details.
The Communications dialog appears, displaying the communications
components you can install.
5. Click on Dial-Up Networking until a check mark appears in its selection
box.
6. Click OK to return to the Add/Remove Program Properties dialog.
7. Click OK to install Dial-Up Networking.
Windows 95 may prompt you for your Windows 95 installation media. Insert
the media and specify its location in the Copy file from field. After
you've specified the location for your install media, click OK to
continue.
8. Specify a Computer Name, a Workgroup name, and a description if
necessary.
If you haven't previously installed any Windows 95 network components,
Windows 95 will prompt you with the Network message. Click OK to
continue. Windows 95 next displays the Network dialog; click on the
Identification tab. The information you enter in this dialog will be
used to identify your system to other machines on networks to which you
connect. Enter a name for your computer, the name of your workgroup, and
a description of your computer. This information will be used to
identify your system to other machines on your network.
9. Confirm your installation.
In the Network dialog, click on the Configuration tab. You should see
the items shown in the components list; you may see additional
components depending on your system.
10. Check for the TCP/IP protocol.
If you see the TCP/IP protocol in the list of networking components
installed on your system, please go to Step 15. If you do not see the
TCP/IP protocol in the list, please continue to Step 11.
11. Click Add... in the Network dialog.
The Select Network Component Type dialog is displayed.
12. Double-click the Protocol icon, or highlight it and click Add... to
display the Select Network Protocol dialog.
13. Locate the Microsoft TCP/IP protocol.
Select Microsoft in the Manufacturers list, and then select TCP/IP in
the Network Protocols list.
14. Click OK; you'll return to the Network configuration dialog.
15. Finalize your installation.
After you've verified that the components you installed are listed in
the Network configuration dialog, click OK. Windows 95 may prompt you
for your Windows 95 install media as it applies the changes you've
requested. You'll need to restart your system before you can begin using
Dial-Up Networking. Once you've restarted, you'll find that a Dial-Up
Networking icon has been added to the Start menu in the Programs |
Accessories folder. Next, you'll need to install support for SLIP
connections and Dial-Up Networking Scripting. This process is described
in the next section.
INSTALLING DIAL-UP NETWORKING SCRIPTING OPTIONS

Dial-Up Networking Scripting allows you to use an automatic logon script to
connect to your Internet Service Provider. Before you follow this procedure
please complete the Step-by-Step instruction above to install Dial-up
Networking in Windows. Otherwise, Dial-Up Networking will not work.
1. Choose Settings | Control Panel from the Windows Start taskbar menu to
open the Control Panel.
2. Double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon, or highlight it and press
<Enter>.
Windows will display its Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog.
3. Select Windows Setup to display the Add/Remove Program Properties
dialog.
4. Click the Have Disk... button.
Windows 95 prompts you for the location of the component you want to
install. Insert your Procomm Plus installation media; if you're
installing from diskette, insert Disk #1.
5. Click Browse... and navigate to the \dunscrpt folder on the installation
media.
6. Select the rnaplus.inf file, and click OK.
Windows displays the Install From Disk dialog. Click OK.
7. Enable the Dial-Up Scripting option.
Enable the option box for Dial-Up Scripting in the Have Disk dialog.
8. Click Install.
Windows will install the Dial-Up Scripting tool, as well as support for
SLIP/CSLIP Internet connections. A Dial-Up Scripting Tool icon will also
be created on the Programs | Accessories folder on the Windows Start
taskbar menu.
CREATING A DIAL-UP NETWORKING CONFIGURATION FOR YOUR ACCOUNT

If you already have an ISP account, but you haven't configured Windows
dial-up Networking for your it, Procomm Plus can do this for you. Just
follow these steps:
1. Start the Internet Access wizard.
Select the Help | Wizards... menu item from within a Procomm Plus
communication window, and then double-click Internet Access in the list
of wizards to start it. The wizard displays the Connection Type dialog.
2. Select the Modem... option, and then click Next.
The Using the Internet dialog appears.
3. Select the I already have an Internet account... option, and click Next.
The Setting Up Your New Internet Connection dialog appears.
4. Click Next to display the Choosing Your Internet TCP/IP stack and Dialer
dialog.
5. Select Configure a new Windows 95/NT... option, and click Next to
display the Select your Service Provider dialog.
6. Select your service provider.
The Select your Service Provider dialog allows you to select your
service provider. Select the location of your service provider in the
Country drop-down list, and then select your service provider's name
from the Service Provider drop-down list. Note that when you select your
service provider, the phone numbers are adjusted accordingly.If your
service provider is not listed, type its name in the Service Provider
combo box, and enter the appropriate phone numbers in the Country Code,
Area Code, and Phone Number fields.
When you're finished with your selections, click Next.
7. Continue to enter the appropriate information in the wizard's dialogs
until you are notified that you're finished.
As you are prompted to configure your Internet account information, it is
imperative that you enter the appropriate information for all of the fields
presented by the wizard. If you are unsure about any of the settings, please
refer to the documentation provided by your ISP. When you're finished with
the wizard, simply select an entry in the Procomm Plus Connection Directory
and attempt a connection. Your Dial-up Networking configuration is
activated, and once it is connected to the Internet, Procomm Plus attempts a
connection to the Internet site.
