The problems experienced were with Windows NT 4.0 Build 1381 Service pack 1. The problems were corrected by obtaining and installing Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 2 from Microsoft Corporation. More information on the symptoms, problem resolution, and contacting Microsoft Corporation are provided below. Symptoms -------- Serial print jobs would be lost when jobs were placed in the print queue and the printer would intermittently stop in the middle of a printout. Attempting to "Purge Print Documents" would purge jobs intermittently, but the serial port would no longer function after the first lock up and subsequent jobs would stack up in the print queue unprinted. Only a full system restart would allow serial printing again. Resolution ---------- Obtain and install Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 2. Microsoft has confirmed problems with portions of the Windows NT 4.0 Printing Architecture and documented them in the Knowledge Base articles listed below. The SP-2021SIK has the capability of consistently feeding to a registered top of form by sensing a preprinted black mark on the reverse side of the paper. The end user must purchase paper with the black mark printed on the back of the paper. Consult the factory for paper purchasing and specifications. The top of form feature was added by sensing the printed black mark using the Paper Out sensor already installed in the SP-2021SIK. For this reason, some features, such as button functions, escape sequences, and Microsoft Windows drivers ave been added or changed as documented below. 3.1 Paper Loading ----------------- Load the preprinted paper into the SP-2021SIK as normal. During the paper load sequence the SP-2021SIK ignores the top of form marks. To set the top of form manually, refer to the "Control Button Function Changes" described below. 3.2 Control Button Function Changes ----------------------------------- To set the top of form manually, press and hold Cut Button, then press the Forward ("FWD") button and the SP-2021SIK will feed to top of form and cut the paper. One press of the Cut Button feeds the paper, cuts, and ignores the top of form mark. The cut button will activate on the release of press. 3.3 Additional Escape Sequence ------------------------------ The ESC "b" escape sequence was added for feed to top of form (Black Mark sensed by Paper Out sensor) and cut the paper. 3.4 Sample Basic Program ------------------------ 10 WIDTH LPRINT 255 20 LPRINT "Telpar SP-2021SIK" 'Send some Text 30 LPRINT CHR$(27)+"b" 'Feed to TOF and Cut the Paper 40 END 3.5 Available Microsoft Windows Drivers --------------------------------------- The top of form feature can be used with Microsoft Windows by installing a new printer driver which sends the ESC"b" control code. Telpar SP-2021SIK printer drivers are available for the following Microsoft Windows operating systems. Microsoft Windows 3.1 - Not available at time of writing, consult the factory. Microsoft Windows 95 To use the top of form features from Windows 95, you must use driver Version 3.1 or higher and install one of the following models: "Telpar SP-2021SIK TOF" "Telpar SP-2021SIK Cut TOF" "Telpar SP-2021SIK Fill TOF" "Telpar SP-2021SIK Cut Fill TOF" Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 - Not available at time of writing, consult the factory. For example, a document containing three pages will be linked together as one long document. 3) "Fill" drivers fill out the full page if instructed to by the application software which is printing. NOTE: Drivers without "Fill" in the name, have a limited feed distance and will not waste paper. 4) "Fill" drivers have a "Letter" size paper which has the effective print area of a letter sized page, but will cut pages at approximately 13". 5) "Fill" drivers have a "Cut at 11 Inches" page size which will reduce the effective print area, but cut at approximately 11 inches. 6) "TOF" indicates that the driver sends the top of form command, ESC "b" on completion of a printed page or document. 4.0 SP-2021 Driver Descriptions ------------------------------- In addition to the standard SP-2021 driver, the following drivers are available for the the SP-2021SIK (Delivery System) model: "Telpar SP-2021IK Cut Fill" "Telpar SP-2021SIK Fill TOF" "Telpar SP-2021SIK Cut Fill TOF" 1) SP-2021IK drivers force the SP-2021SIK to eject previously printed pages forward. 2) SP-2021SIK drivers retract previously printed pages in the Delivery System. Note: When using the standard SP-2021 driver with the SP-2021SIK, previously printed pages are retracted into the Delivery System. 3) "Cut" model Cuts each page individually.
